Tropical Islands: The Caribbean in Germany

Parques Reunidos acquired Tropical Islands in December 2018 for a sum of 226 million euros. This new asset represents the most significant investment the company’s history. Built in a most original location and ranking as the world’s largest water park, Tropical Islands is an extraordinary place!

A PARK WITH AN EXTENSIVE HISTORY

Tropical Islands was built inside a former airship hangar better known as Aerium. The facility was originally the airfield for the Luftwaffe’s Brand-Guben Pilot Trainning School. Later on, it became the biggest airport in the GDR, and was operated as the official airport for all state visits arriving from the former USSR. The airfield even welcome astronaut Yuri Gagagrin in 1963.

In 1998, the Federal State of Brandenburg sold the facility to CargoLifter AG, a company which intended to create a technological development hub at this location. Yet, CargoLifter declared insolvency in 2002 and the facility was purchased by PLC/Colin Au one year later. After such financial difficulties, the new owners decided to create a water park in the historic location, giving birth to Tropical Islands.

The airship hangar -also called the dome- now houses part of Tropical Islands and is one of the biggest free-standing structures in the world, covering an area of  6.6 hectares. Apart from the dome, the park also has extensive facilities outdoors.

UNIQUE ATTRACTIONS

“The Tropical Sea” and “The Lagoon”

These two attraction are perfect for all those visitors who come to Tropical Islands to relax on a sandy beach or take a dip in a pool surrounded by waterfalls and tropical forests. “The Tropical Sea” is a 200-meter-long pool circled by a sandy beach and a range of palm trees. Similarly, “The Lagoon” reproduces a relaxing and exotic environment surrounded by small caves, waterfalls, Balinese huts, and tropical trees. Furthermore, the most adventurous have the opportunity to join an introduction to diving course at The Tropical Sea.

The largest artificial rainforest in the world

The area “The Rainforest” spans over 10,000 sqm and houses up to 50,000 plants from 600 different species from around the world. Aside from the plants, visitors can also watch certain animals, such as tortoises, famingos, and peacocks. A 1-kilometer-long trail will take you inside this rainforest to discover all its secrets. At the very center of “The Rainforest” stands “Kupu Kupu”, the house of butterflies. The butterflies that can be found here are exotic species; Tropical Islands offers a prefect microclimate for them to thrive in.

AMAZONIA®

Since 2016, AMAZONIA® is the outdoor are at Tropical Islands. It covers a natural evironment of 35.000 sqm and includes vas spaces where to practice different sports (Beach volleyball, soccer, waterpolo, etc.), bathe in the different pools, relax under the sun and enjoy a nice day with family and friends.

MUCH MORE THAN A WATER PARK

Tropical Islands is not the usual water park. Here, visitors can find a number of services and offerings that often exceed their expectation and which make the German park a special and attractive destination.

Sauna & Spa

The sauna and the spa are a good example of the extraordinary experience a visit to Tropical Islands can become. These two facilities are insode the dome and they include all the necessary elements to have the most relaxing and renewing time at Tropical Islands. Beyond a sauna, visitors at Tropical Islands will be able to enjoy massages and cosmetic treatements at the beauty and wellness center, or they can chose to workout at the fitness center.

The Tropino Kids Club

Tropical Islands is a family friendly park. For this reason For this reason, it also offers areas and activities dedicated, exclusively, to the younger members of the family. At the Tropino Kids Club, childre can choose to play at the clibing area, build castles with giant LEGO blocks, or race their friends at the Gocart circuit.

The height of the Tropical Islands’ dome reaches 107 meters at its highest point. Coming soon: the new surf simulator

The new attraction Pororoca Surf Club will be one of the strong elements at Tropical islands 2019 season. this attraction will be located outdoors and will feature a wave simulator with the latests technology, where visitors will be able to practice their surfing skills.
